Great series. Tough loss. Some notes on Game 6

Gordon started hot, finished cold. If he knocks down the baseline layup or the three after the Hinrich steal, it becomes a one possession game. Then again we can say that about tons of plays this series so is it even worth thinking about?

What was up with that one point the scorers left off the scoreboard? We spent two hours lobbying at the tv for that point, and we finally got it in the fourth quarter (yes, thanks to us yelling at the tv). wow.

Celtics played well, and distributed offensive fire power pretty evenly. In fact, if they dont miss 100 free throws, the game is not even close.

No hard feelings (outside of "sports hate" (see Bill Simmons)) after this series is over. It was a great battle between two teams with each having their arguably best player injured.

Looking back, Rondo was ridiculous…to average a triple double is pretty amazing.

Derrick Rose was real good, but turnovers cost us this series.

Brad Miller looked good this series, but tentative in Game 7.

Points in the paint - not many to speak of….

SIGN BEN GORDON!!!

First of all, I personally don't think it matters what happens in Game 7 from the Bulls standpoint. Neither of these two teams are gonna win it all, and for the Bulls the experience is what counts. They've had numerous pressure situations, overtime games, clutch free throws, inbound plays, three point plays, defensive stops, a crucial game 5 on the road, an elimination game at home, and a crucial game 7 on the road. The coaching staff gets their fair share of experience as well. And a few months ago who would have guessed the Bulls had a chance to knock out the Celtics in game 7?

That being said, of course it would be nice to win on Saturday and advance to face the Magic. Last year the Hawks took the Celtics to game 7 in the first round, only to get blown out in game 7 right from the start. Here's what the Bulls can take away from that game.

The Bulls have to keep their composure during Celtics run. Every time the Celtics knock down about 5 unanswered points, the crowd is going to get into the game in a big way, and the Bulls need to relax and just play their game. Last year the Celts made a run at the hawks in the 2nd quarter: The Hawks faltered and only scored 10 points in the second quarter.

No unnecessary hard fouls will help the Bulls. Last year Marvin Williams took Rondo to the floor with a hard foul, which only energized the already leading big Celtics.

Offense. The celtics are gonna roll with some tough defense to open up the gates while their legs are still fresh. The Bulls need to take it to the rack early and not rely on jumpers. Last year the Hawks scored a record low of 26 points in the entire first half due to reliance on jumpers and poor offensive execution.

No point in looking back and talking about what might have been. Time to gear up for game 6! Bulls need to adjust to the physical play of the Celts. My guess: It will be the most physical game of the series, featuring at least 3 technicals and an ejection. Def 1 or 2 flagrant fouls. Just hope the Bulls can not worry about the refs and play through the game. If the Bulls move the ball, they will win. In fact I would go as far as saying the Bulls are the better team when the Celts are without KG. I liken the Celtics to the Heat a year after they won the title. The Celtics aren't fading as fast as the heat, but certainly have their big 3 getting older by the day. If the Bulls push the ball, I predict a blowout game 6 for the Bulls. They will be playing angry too from what happened in game 5.

Thanks to docksquad for the following rambling:

Thanks to docksquad for the following rambling:

Docksquad says:

My thoughts on the Celtics. The first thing that comes to mind is that they are a very dirty team. The Celts have been committing hard fouls all series long. I can think of maybe 4 fouls right off the top of my head that should have been called Flagrants, that were not. Now I don't blame them for it, because if the refs don't care and are not calling it, then hey why not keep doing it.

Also, isn't it funny that after Perkins and Doc complain about foul calls, that he doesn't get any fouls called on him in this game? Ya the guy is a beast, but he hits someone every time down the court. Definitely fishy…

Also, my other random thought about the Celts. Sorry but these Celtics are punks. Celts, you guys know you are the defending Champs and the 2 seed in the playoffs right? By the way they are acting and talking, it doesn't look like it, does it? All of them bark so much, and KG barks the most. I've definitely lost respect for that guy. Here is a dope post by my buddy at Pippen Ain't Easy as he talks more about this topic. During the game, KG was barking at Miller calling him a choker and talking smack to Gordon as he was walking off of the court. Real classy man, you are so HARD! AHH MAN, we are all scared!

I think the Bulls need to get more physical and clap back on the Celts, but they need to do it smartly. Basically just do what the Celtics do. Whenever people go up for layups, clock them hard. These Celts remind me of those Old Pistons Squads that couldn't stop Jordan, so they just tried to chop him down on every play.

Last shot… how is that not a flagrant foul on Rondo at the end of the game? The dude literally knocked Miller's tooth out. How did he even go for the ball? Watch the video, then tell me that Rondo went for the ball. What's sad is that those refs did not have the stones to call it a flagrant foul there in Boston because it was the last play of the game. That's the truth of the matter, plain and simple. Rondo should be suspended for that hit, but I doubt he will be. Next time, I guess it is ok to just literally punch someone in the face when they are going up for their last shot of the game. Just knock them out and they won't hit their free throws and you win! Plain genius!

Anyways, since this one is over, there is nothing else we can do about it. But I will say this, these Bulls showed me a lot of heart in the way they played in Game 4, and even today. They did not just fold like the Hornets. This Bulls team is a team full of pride and heart and they have battled all series long. They are not going to go out like that, I just know it. And DRose is not going to go out like that either. The kid is special, and special players always bounce back after bad games, and he will bounce back in Game 6 in a big way. You heard it here first, the Bulls will win Game 6! They are going to win and send this one back to Boston. The crowd will definitely be behind them as well and they will be pumped. Let's see how it all plays out Thursday, and whatever happens, one thing is for sure, this series has been amazing to watch so far.

Gordon vows to play despite an MRI showing a strained hamstring. BG is listed as day to day. Without Gordon, the Bulls will be real thin and probably lose the "tired" advantadge they supposedly have. Probably lose the game for that matter.

Speaking of tired, everyone needs to remember 3 of the Celtics starting 5 are young too- it's only a matter of Pierce and Allen playing through fatigue. I don't see this as an issue till at least game 6. It's nothing to get excited about as Bulls fans. Remember the Celtics went through a lot more basketball last year, (granted with KG), but this is the playoffs and I'm sure the Garden will be rocking enough to energize them.

Watching the tape again from the game (First I digress, My first attempt to record the game on its original telecast on my dvr was a failure due to the length of the game, thus leaving me without the two overtimes to watch. You can imagine my excitement when I heard they were going to replay the game on ESPN Classic Monday @ 5pm ET. The RCN guide said MLB baseball, but I recorded it anyway and extended the recording for a half hour extra, but still got only till a minute left in the fourth! Yes I know, it's partly my fault (but mostly RCNs), so for now I've scoured the net for the most detailed highlights from the game so that I wouldn't miss many possessions.) But watching the tape showed me the Bulls did the little things. For instance, with Rondo's missed shot at the end of 1OT, Rose skies for the rebound. After Salmons blocks Pierce's three, Gordon lunges for the basketball. Good to see the Bulls are hustling every second of play. We've seen too many times during the regular season where other teams get a tip in or another last second shot to burn us.

Tyrus had several huge boards during the game that cannot be under appreciated. It makes up for his decision not to pass to Rose and hitting only 1 of 2 free throws giving Ray Allen the chance to tie at the end of regulation. For those of you wondering, Thomas and Rose pretty much shot an identical percentage from the charity stripe this season. (.783 vs. .788 respectively)

I've seen a couple place now talking about how the Celtics won 3 game 5's last year at home on their way to the title. In general, most of these made for tv stats mean jack. There are lies, damn lies, and statistics. However I think this one is actually relevant as it shows the resiliency of the team, and the ability to step up in big time high pressure situations with the crowd behind them. Lets just hope they are past their time to get at us.

Less than 8 hours till tip off……
