Media Day
Media day went off with a couple of surprises. First is Scott Skiles publicly saying that the team voted to allow Ben Wallace to wear a headband during games and practice. When asked if Joakim Noah would be allowed to wear one, he quickly cut off that notion and mentioned Big Ben's defensive player of the year awards among other accolades.
“We still have a no-headband rule,” coach Scott Skiles said. “I just left it up to the guys who have been here if they wanted to make an exception for Ben. I was fine with it. They were fine with it.”
Personally, I think this was a long time coming. Even last year. Pax and Skiles mentioned they had wished Ben brought up the headband issue before the season, so I think they just wanted the season to end before implementing this. I actually think it will help Ben play better. I'm still looking for someone to come up with Big Ben's stats on a comparative basis, with and without his headband. Will be interesting to see what Noah has to refrain from wearing/doing after seeing his draft day garb.
The other pleasant surprise was the bulked up team. Ben Gordon mentioned he has cut down on his lifting this summer, but Kirk Hinrich and Luol Deng look like they have been hitting the gym. It wasn't apparent in Deng's pictures with the G.B. team this summer, but on Media Day you could definitely tell he has been bulking up. Hopefully we see him be able to post up a little more, even if he is playing some more time in the #2 position.
